The Hemingway Suite  

I went into this design knowing I wanted to add brick to the walls because we had brick in the rest of the client’s space.  However, I wanted this brick application to be different than the other rooms and wanted it to be believable that this was an old exposed brick wall.  I combined that with shiplap, painted a deep espresso brown, and live edge wood shelves and desk.  As the styling evolved, it seemed that everything I was choosing had a very travelled and adventurous feel to it.  Hence, the Hemingway suite.

In the guest bathroom, wood-looking porcelain tile was laid.  This bathroom not only connects to the guest bedroom, but also to the hallway of the main space, so I wanted the wood flooring of both entrances to blend as seamlessly as possible to the wood-looking porcelain.  The vanity was custom-built and topped with a double-laminate marble edge and oversized marble backsplash.  The modern faucet peers out of the vintage inspired marble backsplash over a vessel sink giving this area the perfect mix of old and new.  Above the vanity is an antique mirror and light fixture.  Not wanting to take anything visually away from the vanity area, a custom, calacatta marble, dimensional art piece was created and mounted next to the vanity.  This art piece captures the juxtaposition between the vintage and modern theme in this space.  A new tub was set in place and in keeping with the theme, subway tiles were laid and a classic marble and limestone basket weave accent tile frames out the modern shower fixtures.
